Monday 15th November 2021

Today we started to make our moving Christmas cards. We used our designs from last lesson to think about what is going to be the moving part. We started on the wheel mechanisms today. I won’t show too many photos so they are a nice surprise when they come home at the end of term!

History – Old Toy Workshop

Monday 8th November 2021

Today we had a special visit from Estelle Baker from the Heritage Education. She brought lots of old toys in to show us. Some toys were over 150 years old! We were not allowed to play with the really old toys – but she brought lots of replicas and copies that we were allowed to play with

We looked at what the old toys were made out of – metal, wood, saw dust and cardboard. We also discovered that none of the old toys were electric or needed batteries. We had to make them move. We had to pull, push, squeeze, and spin the different toys.

We had great fun playing with all the different old toys and learning about how they work.

Geography – Seasons & Weather

Thursday 4th November 2021

In Geography this week we have been identifying the types of clothing worn in different weather and different Seasons. We then went on a walk around our outside area to find clues to see if we could decide which Season it is.

We were looking to see if we could find places where rain water collects; somewhere that doesn’t get wet; something that is moved by the wind and places to shelter from the rain. It was interesting to look at our outside area closely. We discovered that the water butt had been blown over and a bench had moved in the wind.

English – To know what a sentence is.

Monday 1st November 2021

Today in English we looked at what makes a sentence. We found out that it is a group of words but they have to make sense. We started to look at how sentences need a capital letter to start with and a full stop at the end.

We used the word cards to build sentences about the three little pigs. We then copied these sentences into our books.

Art – Self Portraits

Monday 11th October 2021

We used mirrors to draw self portraits. We were focusing on drawing the correct shapes and then adding the features and details. I was very impressed with everyone’s drawings. They all took their time and tried really hard.

English – Three Pigs Story Plan

Wednesday 6th October 2021

Today we acted out the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’ again. We discussed how important it was for the story to be in the correct order. We then drew our own story maps to show the main events of the story, in the correct order.

Maths – using < > = symbols

Following on from last week when we were comparing groups, today we started to look at the more than, less than and equals symbols. We compared objects and used the correct sign.
