Art – Arcimboldo Collage portraits

This term in Art we are looking at some of the artwork by Arcimboldo. We looked at his portrait below and discussed the different fruits, vegetables and flowers he has used for each feature of the face. Using collage, the children then had a go at making their own fruit and vegetable portraits.

English – The Colour Monster

This week in English we re-read the story and thought about ways to cheer the monster up when he is feeling sad. We decided that if we had a party for him, that would make him super happy. The children became ‘party planners’ and thought of lots of brilliant ideas for things they would have at the party. Ideas included a bouncy castle, cakes, balloons, decorations, disco ball and lots more fun things! The children had a go at writing their words and were trying to sound them out and segment them carefully – listening for all the sounds.

COOL time

Aquila class are loving their COOL time (choose our own learning). They are enjoying the different challenges in each area.

Geography – Four Seasons

In a geography this term we are looking at the four seasons. In today’s lesson we learnt what the four seasons are and started to think about the weather we have in each season. The children had different pictures and had a go at sorting them into the correct season.

Computing – Coding caterpillar

Yesterday we had our first computing lesson with Mr Berryman. We looked at the coding caterpillar and learnt what algorithm means. We were then able to to put an algorithm together to make the caterpillar move. We could make it move forwards, left and right.

COOL Time

In Year 1 we have COOL time. This stands for “Choose our own learning.” The children are able to access the different areas and choose the activities or challenges in each area. In the classroom we have these different areas: Phonics, writing, funky fingers, construction, art, workshop, discovery, book corner and maths. The children also have some outside COOL time. Here are some photos of the children enjoying their COOL time.
