Maths Day – Sweet shop investigation

Today is World Maths Day so every class is looking at an investigation. In Key Stage 1 we looked at a sweet shop investigation. W were told the price of different sweets and given 10p to spend. We had to work out all the different combinations and ways we could spend our 10p. Everyone worked so hard and persevered to find lots of different ways.

Reading for Pleasure

Monday 21st March 2022

We try to make time most days to read for pleasure. Children get to choose books from our class reading shelves and sometimes we bring in books from the library. Children can read books on their own or share them with their friends. We often have quiet, calm music playing and everyone enjoys this time to explore and read different books.

Bollywood Dance Workshop

Monday 21st March 2022

Today Amber came in to teach us about Indian dance. We learnt a bit about India first and the capital city is New Delhi. Amber then showed us some Bollywood dance moves, using peacock and flower hands. We played a Bollywood style musical statues and then learnt a group dance that we did altogether. Then we ended with a dance off between boys and girls, performing some of the new moves we had learnt!

Science Week – Exploring Magnets

Today we explored magnets as part of our science week. Children played with the different magnets and tried to find different objects that are magnetic. They tried to make the paper clips dance and had a go at making magnets float. They also explored what happened when they put the magnets near the compasses.

Big Phonics – To be able to read alien and real words.

Wednesday 16th a March 2022

Today in Big Phonics we were using all our phonics knowledge to write sentences and to read real and alien words. Children were practicing sounding out and blending words. They had a go at making up their own alien names and practiced writing the graphemes on our sound mats.

Art – Colour Mixing

LO- I know the primary colours and I can make the secondary colours.

Wednesday 9th March 2022

This week our Art challenge has been to use the primary colours to make the secondary colours. Everyone was able to do super mixing and could make the colours green, orange and purple. The children are becoming really independent with their work and were able to wash up their brushes and pallets afterwards ready for the next group.

Maths – Capacity

LO – I can measure capacity. I can compare capacity.

This week we have been looking at capacity in Maths. We started off by looking at the words full, empty, nearly full and nearly empty. We showed these different amounts using water in containers. We then measured how much capacity each container has by using a small pot to count how many fill each container. We then compared capacity and ordered from smallest to greatest capacity.

World Book Day – Leon & the Place Between

Thursday 3rd March 2022

Today we looked at the book ‘Leon and the Place Between.’ We read half of the story and then predicted what we thought would happen to Leon and what the magic land was like that he fell into. The children had great predictions and were very imaginative. We then looked at the magic in the book and thought about what magic we would like to be able to do and produced some lovely art work.

World Book Day – Circus Skills

As part of our World Book Day celebrations we had a circus skills workshop. We learnt how to use the hoops, scarves and juggling hoops and skittles.
